I did mention that I was not a JW..that I was raised in it though. I was very angry for many years about my situation but have finally come to a peaceful place. I do get frustrated when I read the literature at times. But I have learned to hold my tongue. If my family opens the discussion, then I am willing to talk about it. Otherwise, I remain silent. It's just better for me.

They were very pleasant and seemed to know lots of my parents' and deceased grandmother's friends from the nearby hall. I made a joke that I had wished that I had a cart like that when I was a child going from door to door with my family.
I have read posts where people are unpleasant and shout out at these JWs but I really don't see a reason to be rude. I just stated that I had some different views than what the religion teaches but that I still had respect for their beliefs. I would like to think that I gave my own "witness."

numbers 5:11-31. this is a scripture that is as stupid as the "medieval witch trials"!.
it is also so degrading to women, and shows how the bible views them as mere property that can be treated as just possessions.. i would love to see how the wt tries to use this passage and make a modern day twist (as they try to do with so many other passages!).
So Moses Joe is saying that only if the woman is owned by another "owner" that they both must die? If the Bible wasn't anti-women why would they even have to say that? What if she wasn't "owned" by another? Would she just die???
in the 1920's the watcthower had the "millions now living will never die".
in the proclaimer's book there is a photo of a bible students book booth with a sign that said in large letters, "millions now living will never die!
this is literally true.
If I had the enery I would make copies of that picture and leave them on every car at the JW Hall near me during Sunday service....
please don't take this the wrong way if your battling weight problems, that's not what this thread is meant to talk about.
i am asking this question because jehovah's witnesses claim they have "the best way of life", "god's blessing", "the truth" and are trying to change the habits of healthy people by turning them in to their own makings.
i watched people who were great athletes turn all their muscle in to fat because we would get a elder or circuit overseer make remarks they were spending too much time "working out" and "bodily training is beneficial for little".
I had noticed when I went to my JW grandmother's funeral that there were a lot of overweight people. However, saying that, I don't think the ratio is any more higher than the general public. But I've always wondered why they came down so hard on smoking. Obesity is a killer as well. The amount of people on blood pressure medicine because of extra weight has skyrocketed. I am not unsympathetic. I have battled my weight since I was a teenager (a chubby JW kid.) When I got into my mid-20s after the birth of my son, I decided to take a healthier path. I still battle it...it takes a lot of discipline, especially here in the states where food is so abundant and portion sizes are massive. But overeating can be a sign of depression, and I can understand why the average JW would want to stuff their faces....

as kid i remember a break of 15 minutes between the public talk and the wt study.
all the new ones and "weak" ones ran out to smoke.
loved to see the attendant round them up to come back in when the droning began again.
I don't remember them at all...forced to spend another 15 minutes of your life you'll never get back in a windowless, badly decorated hall!

one of my co workers mother made my 4 year old a blanket with the disney character tinkerbell on it.
as soon as i got it i knew trouble lay ahead.
i wanted to reason with her before my daughter saw it so as not to cause a disruption, but it didn't work out that way.

It would sadly seem son, Stuckinarut. I know some pretty intelligent JWs who fail to see through this ruse. Or if they do, they're in denial. Unfortunately, I find it hard to look the other way and my connections with the ones that are still in are somewhat strained. I find it very hard to hold in my frustration!
